Albany is a municipality under the Mayor-Board of Alderman government and is governed by the “Lawrason Act”, with an elected Chief of Police. The town was incorporated in 1953, with the first mayor being Grady Stewart. Railroad (B.R.H. & E) established Albany in 1907-08 at the crossroads of north-south Turnpike Road from Springfield to Natchez, MS on a portion of Spanish Headright granted to Nancy Settoon in 1801.
The Town of Albany would like to say Thank You to WEYERHAEUSER for the grant that enabled us to purchase this Polaris that will be used by both the Maintenance and Police Departments. The continued support from Weyerhaeuser for our community is greatly appreciated.
- Eileen Bates-McCarroll, Mayor
